  1. Natural Sciences, Mathematics and ICT Didactics: Students will get involved in basic research in the fields of physics, biology and mathematics education, museum education, ICT-education, philosophy of science and cognitive psychology; they are expected to deepen their knowledge on the relation of these fields to education.

Postgraduate students are expected to (a) successfully attend nine 10-ECTS courses, and (b) successfully defend a 30-ECTS Postgraduate Diploma Thesis. The curriculum is structured as follows:

During the first three semesters, students are required to attend three Compulsory courses (one per semester), and six Elective courses (two per semester). At least three of these Elective courses (i.e. at least one course per semester) must be part of the students’ Specialization Curriculum. For more information, see Courses. and the courses’ links.

During the last semester of their studies, students are required to work on their Postgraduate Diploma Thesis, supervised by one faculty member. Completing a thesis is necessary for the acquisition of the postgraduate diploma. For more information, see Postgraduate Diploma Thesis.

Attendance can be prolonged for two more semesters if necessary.

Students are required to help out in the Department’s activities (exams, tutorials, labs etc.). Moreover, students are also strongly encouraged to participate in research seminars and conferences.

The language of instruction is Greek. For Erasmus students however, instruction may also be given in English or French, depending on the course.

Postgraduate Diploma Thesis

Students have to undertake a thesis during the last year of their studies. The thesis is prepared by one student and supervised by one faculty member. When the thesis is completed, students have to submit their manuscript and defend their work in a public, oral presentation. Both the manuscript and the presentation are evaluated by three faculty members: the supervisor and two co-examiners.

Doctoral Studies

In order to register for doctoral studies, one has to already hold a postgraduate diploma, submit a research proposal and get accepted by a supervisor. The supervisor and two more faculty members are the student’s Advisory Committee until the completion of the doctoral thesis, i.e. for 3 years minimum.

When the doctoral thesis is completed, students have to submit their manuscript and defend their work in a public, oral presentation. Both the manuscript and the presentation are evaluated by seven faculty members from any Greek University, including the 3 members of the Advisory Committee.

All doctoral students are strongly encouraged to participate in research seminars and conferences during their studies in the Department.
